Queen Liliuokalani
Queen from 1891-1898
In 1893 U.S. sailors and marines invaded, occupied occupied and overthrew her Kingdom with the backing of President Grover Cleveland and Congress. In 1898 President William Mckinley sent more troops,annexed the sovereign nation and appointed Sanford Dole of Dole Pineapple as Governor.
She was described by U.S. military officers as
" darker than ordinary natives, showing evidence
of negro blood."

Rationales for taking Hawaii were that the people were incapable of self rule because they were lazy, sexually promiscuous, not monogamous, cannibals, unintelligent,
pagan, savage, childlike, and unable to use the land and resources.
